This is our tribute to Modern Vampires of the City, an album which frames time as both a precious resource and an inescapable threat. It stares you down from the moment you wake up ("Morning's come, you watch the red sun rise / The LED still flickers in your eyes), and "the low click of a ticking clock" continues to stalk you throughout the day, simultaneously bearing down on you ("the clock is such a drag") while also relentlessly pushing you toward “the headstone right in front of you.”
The album opens with a warning that "no one's gonna spare their time for you," and while the album ends with a seemingly gentle invitation to "take your time," the refrain of "Young Lion" can also be heard as a more urgent call to action. Rather than waiting for someone to spare you their time, take it for yourself.
Whether you interpret the album's closing words as a reminder to slow down or a call to take action, its message is ultimately the same: reclaim ownership of the time you have left, and take it before time takes you.
